Define a prefetch worklist
Enable prefetching at the workstation from the viewer
When you open a study, data downloads from the server to the workstation. On a slow or busy network, performance will be reduced. You can set up your workstation to download selected studies from the server in the background, so they reside on the local workstation before you open the study.
A workstation automatically downloads the studies defined on the user's prefetch filter. If downloading the entire study is unnecessary or consumes too much disk space on your workstation, use the thumbnail prefetch filter instead. It downloads the thumbnail information only, speeding up load times but limiting the resources needed on the workstation. To set up prefetching independent of a user's personal prefetch list, set up workstation prefetch for a particular workstation.
Once a prefetch filter exists, enable and disable prefetching from the viewer. Open the Customize Settings window in the viewer, and select the Prefetch tab. Enter the URL of the primary server, and check the Enable Prefetch box. Prefetching commences after at least one cycle. Check the Logs page for prefetch requests.
User and thumbnail prefetching starts as soon as the viewer starts. If configured to run in Standby mode, this happens when the workstation boots. Prefetching uses the prefetch filter of the last user logged onto a workstation. When the next user logs in, the prefetch filter for that account gets used from that point one. If the new user does not have a prefetch filter defined, user and thumbnail prefetching to that workstation stops.
Workstation prefetching starts as soon as the viewer starts. Since workstation prefetch is independent of user prefetching, it is active as long as the viewer is in Standby mode.
If workstation prefetch is active when a user with a defined prefetch worklist filter logs in, the two lists are combined.
